Spot Prawns
Spot Prawns

Why am I doing the happy dance?  It’s because the painting Spot Prawns was accepted into the Annual International Representational Exhibition which is put on by the Federation of Canadian Artists. It opens September 27 and shows until October 17, 2021. This is a pretty big deal for me. I delivered the painting to the gallery today and while I was there saw the boxes of catalogues sitting there waiting to be opened. If you ask sometimes a box gets opened and you are the first to get your catalogue.  I finally got to see my artwork published in a beautiful catalogue along with all the other works in the exhibition. I feel honoured.

So what made me paint a bowl of prawns?  Well, when I see something with such gorgeous colours, I find myself taking pictures. Yes that means I am often photographing my food but please don’t judge. When I set my dish down on my kitchen island and the early evening sun streamed across the plate, I knew I would be painting them.  I had to hurry because I was also anticipating that sweet delicate flavour hitting my tastebuds. There was no chance I was painting these from life, get out the camera.

Sometimes when you start a painting you have a sense that it is going to work and come together well. This was one such painting.  So although you can not taste these beautiful prawns, feel free to feast on them with your eyes.
